Dromintee 3:7

This semi final clash was played in Davitt Park before a large crowd of supporters on Sunday afternoon and pitted the top two teams in the Division 1 against each other. Dromintee came out on top and reached their second successive division 1 championship final in two years where they will come up against Clann Eireann in the final for the second year in a row.

This was a very encouraging win by the Dromintee girls who led from start to finish and it was clear to see that the coaching team of Fiona O’Neill, Priscilla Martin, Mark Mooney and Stephen Mc Crink had their homework done on the Clan Na Gael side managed by former Armagh star Diarmuid Marsden. Playing with the aid of a strong breeze Dromintee led by six points at half time with full forward Rosie Fox getting the goal in the first five minutes. Points by Emma Toale (0:3); Rosie Fox (1) and the youthful Molly O’Neill (0:1) give the girls from Dromintee a useful lead atthe break. Clans began the second half in determined fashion and had two scores within the first five minutes of the second half to close the game to four points. Determined not to let the lead slip Dromintee powered in for a decisive goal on the tenth minute when Emma Toale slotted home.

  A further point by Toale was quickly followed by the decisive third goal by the lively Molly O’Neill to put 11 points between the teams. Clans determinedly sought to get back into the game but where restricted to points and some strong defending by the Dromintee girls meant Clans didn’t get in for any soft goals. In a tense final minutes Clans threw everything into attack to try and save the day but could not breach the determined Dromintee rearguard and the Dromintee girls held out for a notable scalp. They now go forward with confidence to the U12:5 Division 1 final and will hope that they can end of their season with another piece of silverware. Well Donegirls and management great victory.
