The U15 girls backed up their Feile success by winning the league tonight with a comprehensive win over their nearest challengers Middletown.
With a defeat earlier in the campaign to Middletown the home side knew that defeat tonight would have put the Mid Armagh side in the box seat for the title with one game to go.
A strong first half performance laid the basis for victory tonight as the girls put down a marker with their best single half performance since the Armagh Feile win.
With the team missing the presence of Maggie Boden through injury and Grace Conlon who is abroad the return of Caitlin Carnegie was a huge bonus with her ability to nullify the opposition threat.
Goals tonight came from Emma Toale, Caitlin Carnegie, Pippa Mooney Lily McBennett and Gràinne Laverty while Caoimhe O’Rourke helped the quintet in raising a white flag.
Having built an unassailable lead at half time it was a case of doing the simple things well in the second half but it was a disjointed performance from the squad with an injury to Emma Toale disrupting the Dromintee momentum.
While the first half showed offensive promise the second half was a defensive effort with key contributions coming from Aurike Jankute, Sinead O’Neill and Rosie Fox.
The girls now prepare for Feile in Sligo in twelve days time knowing a consistency of performance is needed if they are to make an impression.
Tonight’s win puts the girls five points ahead of Middletown with just one game remaining for all sides so the league win is secure already with a final game due against Clann Eireann in August.
