Charlie Grant Memorial Cup
On Saturday past our u14 team participated in and won the annual Charlie Grant Memorial Cup, hosted by our neighbours Mullaghbawn. In a six team event attended by other South Armagh clubs our boys went unbeaten throughout the day beating Culloville, Cullyhanna, Crossmaglen, Silverbridge and Mullaghbawn in the group stages.
We finished top of the group and then played third placed Mullaghbawn in the semi-final where we overcame them in closely contested game. In the final we defeated Silverbridge on a scoreline of 7 to 2.
Across the tournament, the boys showed a fantastic array of skills but more importantly showcased great discipline and were never found wanting when it came to hard work. The success on the day was ultimately down to a great team effort and willingness to support one other across all 7 games. Mullaghbawn committee selected, what they felt were the best three players from each team and for us they chose Cormac McNally, Aodhan O’Neill and Jack Jennings. In the final, our own Jack Jennings was given man of the match and this was fully deserved. Aodhan O’Neill lifted the Cup and has been captain of this team all year. Thank you to Mullaghbawn for both inviting us and hosting what was a fantastic days football.
