Girls Feile Final Match Report -6th April.
Our Feile Girls travelled to Madden last Sunday to play Clan Na Gael.
Conditions for last Sunday’s game were ideal and neither team disappointed once the ball was thrown in.
While the Clans team were a bigger more physical outfit, it was the pace and desire of the Dromintee Girls that shone in the early exchanges, with Dromintee registering the first few scores of the game playing against a strong breeze.
Clans first attack came mid-way through the first half where they tried to take the direct route down the middle only to be stopped in their tracks by a strong Dromintee defence made up of Hannah McCrink, Emer O Neill, Sinead O Neill, Eabha Mc Creesh, Aurika Jankute, Lucy Mc Ardle and Niamh Harris.
After 25 minutes of play with the Dromintee Girls well in control and leading by 2 points came the Clan Na Gael goal that stunned the Dromintee crowd. Such was the timing of the score that it looked like a change of momentum was on the cards just before the stroke of half time. However, the Dromintee Girls had different ideas and replied in true style.
From the following kick out the ball was won in the middle of the field and delivered in to the full forward line where Rosie Fox won the ball and turned in side on her left foot and drove the ball to the roof of the Clan Na Gael net to put the Dromintee Girls back in control going in at half time on a score line of 1-05 to 1-03.
At the start of the 2nd half Clan Na Gael piled on the pressure on the Dromintee defence with the Dromintee girls standing firm. Both teams exchanged scores over the early stages of the 2nd half, but the Dromintee girls couldn't extend their 3 point lead with some wayward shooting which left the score line of 2-08 to 1-08 with 10 minutes left on the clock.
It was in the last 10 minutes that Clan na Gael sprung into life clawing back the deficit by scoring a point with the last kick of the game to bring what was a pulsating hour of football to extra time on a score line of 2-11 to 1-14.
The general feel among the Dromintee support on the final whistle of normal time was that it would be a tall ask for the girls to push on in extra time, such was the work rate they had put in over the course of the first hour.
Both teams lined out for extra time and it was the Dromintee girls who showed a new lease of life with our mid field duo of Emma Toale and Ava O Neill winning the throw in and pouncing first with a well worked goal by Emma Toale to the roof of the Clan Na Gael net, Clans then responded with their only score of the first half of extra time to only leave 2 points between the sides when the whistle was blown for half time of extra time.
On the restart the Dromintee mid field won the throw in and started to retain the ball forcing the Clan girls to chase the game. It was this patient passage of play that caused frustration in the Clan's rearguard which forced them to foul the ball on their own 21 presenting Molly ONeill the opportunity to push the girls 3 points clear which she delivered on. With the clock ticking down the Dromintee Forward Pippa Mooney split the post with an insurance point with only two minutes left on the clock.
With the Final whistle being blown there was a great relief and celebrations within the Dromintee camp with girls completing their own bit of history of back-to-back Feile titles on a score line of 3-13 to 1-15 and matching the boys back-to-back Feile successes of 2022 & 2023.
The girls Feile win is a 4th successive Feile tile for the club and something that players, coaches, parents and sponsors should be extremely proud of.
Roll on another All-Ireland series and best wishes to Players and Management on their  journey.
