A proud day in the Parish: Two wins at Malachy McGeeney Tournament

Dromintee PS. girls successfully defended their Malachy McGeeney 9 a-side all county title winning out comfortably against a fancied Middletown team in the Athletic Grounds this morning.
The girls yet again rose to the big  occasion with a particularly dominant second half performance  to seal an historic two in a row for the school.
The team then lent their support to their clubmates from Jonesborough PS who sealed a great day for the club and parish with another victory.
Our congratulations to all at Jonesborough.
The girls arrived home to a wonderful reception from their fellow pupils, teachers and support staff. Our thanks to  them for their support, guidance and assistance over the season, in particular Mrs. W McKeown (Principal) and Geraldine McCoy.
The school are indebted to the club for their continued support in providing coaches, equipment, use of playing fields and transportation to all teams.
A special mention to Greg McCabe from Armagh GAA coaching team who has worked with this group from P4 up.
To our sponsors Newage Electrical, Sean Cavanagh Accountancy, Gaughran Physiotherapy Supplies and the Harris family our sincere appreciation.
Our thanks also to AaronMcKay, Aoife McCoy for their words of inspiration prior and Aimee Mackin for the same along with her coaching session. The girls really paid heed to all with an exhibition of scoring you would be proud of

Jonesboro started the game quickly with a point from Charlie McEvoy .St. John’s hit back straight  away with a well taken point. Charlie hit another, which was quickly cancelled out again. Midway through the second half it was nip and tuck but then Jonesboro hit a purple patch. Manus Rice, Daire Laverty  and Donal McCoy battled brilliantly at the back before Charlie , Caellum Murphy, Eoin O’Rourke hit a quick fire 1-2.
Cian McCoy and Charlie finished the half with a goal a piece to leave the half time score Jaonesboro 3-6 to St.johns 1-3
The second half was all about Jonesboro weathering the storm from a very strong St. John’s come back. Finn McManus won a few crucial kick outs to give us a platform.
James Byrne off the bench got some vital turn overs and Mark McEtee made a crucial goal-line clearance.
The last few minutes was massively intense with both teams fighting for their lives. Charlie clipped over a few badly needed points to ensure Jonesboro won by the minimum.
A heroic performance from the lads against a top class St.Johns team.
The Malachy  McGeeney cup rests in Jonesboro primary for the first time in history.
