U14 Boys victorious in Mullaghbawn tournament

Our under 14 boys traveled to Mullaghbawn today to take part in the Charlie Grant memorial cup and John Crawley perpetual cup.

This regular end of season tournament is always entertaining, featuring six South Armagh teams in quick 10 minute group games.

The young Dromintee men went unbeaten all day, but were run very close in the group league stages. Wins against Cullyhanna and Crossmaglen, were marginally more comfortable than single point wins versus Killeavy, Silverbridge, and hosts Mullaghbawn.

Our lads topped the group, and were rewarded with a semi final against fourth place, familiar foes Killeavy. The semi final was a relatively cagey and low scoring affair, with Dromintee notching up only three scores to Killeavy's two. A much improved second half performance saw Dromintee over the line. Semi Final: Dromintee 2-1, Killeavy 1-1.

The Final pairing of Dromintee versus Crossmaglen was a repeat of the Division 1 Championship Final from early June. This was a 20 minute game, and although there were a lot of tired bodies, the game was very competitive with both teams all out for the win. The tiredness undoubtedly contributed to some bad wides by both teams.

As per the group stage game between Dromintee and Cross', this game was very tight, at half time Dromintee was only just ahead. Cross' fought back in the second half, but two well worked points by Dromintee ensured they came away with a single point victory. Final: Dromintee 1-4, Crossmaglen 1-3.

Dromintee won The Charlie Grant Memorial Cup and it was presented by the Grant family to our Captain on the day, Dylan McCoy.

A well deserved Player of the Final award was given to Dromintee's Tony Winters Junior. Tony also received an 'outstanding player' award alongside his team mates Páraic McGenity and Jack Begley. Tony and Páraic picked up these same awards in 2025.

Well done lads on a great display of football all day.

Many thanks to all the referees and officials, and a big thank you to Mullaghbawn for hosting us, and well done on another great tournament
