DROMINTEE senior midfielder Darren McKenna is hopeful that the side can make a good start to the league season.

John Kennedy’s side start their campaign away to Ballymacnab on Friday nightbefore back-to-back home games against Armagh Harps and Killeavy. After that championship will kick in with Dromintee set to face Maghery.

“The boys have worked so hard since football came back and now it’s up to us to bring into onto the field.

“Looking back to pre-season, I felt there was a lot of hard work being put in within the group and boys were really pushing on and playing well in friendly games coming towards the start of the league before Covid-19 put a hold on all football.

“We had to try and pick that up again on our return and the management have really pushed us on. It’s a young squad but the key thing is to work hard and we’ll see how it goes.”

McKenna is part of Kieran McGeeney’s Armagh squad and got to play at Croke Park back in 2017.

The Orchard county are currently on hold until the club season concludes, and McKenna said it was an unusual season given the current situation.

“Being part of two senior teams can be hectic along with doing my normal day job.

“During lockdown and with work quieter, I had a lot more time on my hands to train. I nearly felt like a professional footballer being able to pick and choose what time I could do my training at.

“Hopefully that will be a big help for me this season and that I can show that with Dromintee over the next few months.”
