Dromintee u14 girls progressed to the semi-final of the Armagh LGFA division two championship this evening after a well-deserved victory away to Pearse Og.

Playing into a very strong breeze in the opening half, the Dromintee girls had to battle strongly to keep their strong running opponents at bay. The rearguard action was led ably by Aoibhe Hoey, Gráinne O’Rourke and Sarah Conlon. Despite a huge defensive effort, goalkeeper Emma Murtagh was called on to make several fine saves across the opening 30 minutes.

The visitors were able to manufacture two excellent breakaway goals through Nicola Campbell and Alanna O’Neill to lead 2-02 to 0-05 at half time.

Turning around with the breeze at their backs, the Dromintee girls opened up to play some super football in the second half. Built on the stranglehold that Kerry Phillips, Rea Winters and Molly Morgan were able to gain on possession around the middle, scores flowed freely as the Armagh city girls’ heads dropped.

Five more goals were added to close out the contest with one each for Emma Murtagh and Kerry Phillips and a second half hattrick for Nicola Campbell.

The u14s progress now to host Clan na Gael at home in the Championship semi-final on Monday 31st August at 7pm.
