Dromintee 4:14 Clan Na Gael Lurgan 2:4
Dromintee had a comfortable 16point victory over their opponents from Lurgan when they fought to the bitter end to finally shake off the stubborn resistance that the north Armagh team showed as they began their division two league with a home win.
Ahead by 2:7 to 1:1 at halftime it had taken until the second quarter before the home side began to put daylight between the two sides when they began to convert chances following some wayward shooting in the first quarter.
Playing an extra person in defence Clans were difficult to break down and it took goals from Nicola Campbell & Grainne O’Rourke to put the home side into a nine point lead at the short whistle.
Further goals by Rose Boden & some good points from Grainne ORourke kept the home team challenge on track & the game was in the bag when Aoibh O’Neill found the net in the last quarter. The home side finished with a flurry and had excellent points from Sarah Conlon and the youthful Alannah O’Neill who closed out the contest with an excellent finish from a tight angle.
Scorers on night were Aoibh O’Neill 1:4; Grainne O’Rourke 1:3, Rose Boden 1:2; Nicola Campbell 1:1: & Sarah Conlon , Niamh Mc Cormick & Alannah O’Neill with one point each. Excellent win for the U16:5 girls against difficult opponents and there were good performances all over the team with girls working hard throughout the game to ensure the victory. It was a difficult game & Clans made it difficult for home side. On a promising note it was good to see the Impact of the substitutes in the last quarter as all ensured they will be fighting for starting places come championship time.
