Dromintee 7:11 Middletown2-9

Dromintee U14:5 girls maintained their unbeaten run this evening when they accounted for a mobile athletic Middletown team in Division 4 of the U14:5 girls league in a dress rehearsal of the forthcoming championship match on 29th July.

Scores win games and in this department the Dromintee girls excelled and kept ahead throughout the game outscoring the home side who failed to convert some strong outfield play to record a 17 point win.

Ahead 1:3 to 0:2 at the first water break it was the 15 minute period before half time that the Dromintee girls put themselves in pole position to win the game out scoring the opposition by 3:5 to 0:2. The game saw two penalties awarded to the away side which were expertly finished by Alannah O’Neill.

The first period after half time saw Middletown at their best when they clawed their way back into game registering 3:1 while Lily Mc Bennett & Grace Conlon added and kept the Dromintee girls well ahead with further goals. In a hard working display, Emma Murtagh played excellently and the defence had outstanding defenders in front of her with Aoife Murphy, Sadbdh McKeever, Grace Gallagher, Eimear Murphy, Erin Mc Crink and Casey O’Donoghue all having good displays. At midfield Alannah O’Neill and Aoibhe Hoey competed well and launched many attacks & kept a plentiful supply of ball going into the forwards. In a hard working half forward line of Pauline Toale, Caoimhe Byrne and Caitlin Carnegie all fought against taller opponents to ensure lots of ball was fed into the sharp shooting forward line of Grace Conlon 3:2; Lily Mc Bennett 2:3 and Ana Bergen. Sarah Murphy got in some important work as a second half substitute to ensure that Dromintee held on to their convincing lead built up before halftime.

The win sees the girls unbeaten at the top of the league and they cannot now be caught for first position. The team conclude the league campaign with a last game v Pontzpass on the 22nd July. This has been an excellent league by the girls whose attention will now turn to the championship as they once again play Middletown knowing only a similar display of committed football will be enough to see themselves victorious.
