Dromintee U16:5 girls qualified as group winners this evening in their championship league group league format and now play Mullaghbawn in the semi final next Monday at a venue to be decided.

The quality of their football improved as the game went on and at times was exceptional with fast movement of the ball, clever link play and some great plays.

To score 8:16 was exceptional and all twenty players used showed that they now come into the business end of the championship in good form.

Leading 1:4 to 0:1 at the first water break they never allowed the opposition any scores in the second period of the first half and scored 2:4 of their own.

Leading 3:8 to 0:1 at half time allowed for some degree of comfort but the home team added a further 3:3 in the first period of the second half to lead 6:11 to 1:2 at the second water break. Leading by 24 points, the hone side used the maximum number of substitutes to easily romp home on a final score line of 8:16 to 3:4.

There were some exceptional performances in defence with Lizzy Daly & Tiernagh Shannon having fine games ably assisting the assured Cliodhna Mc Coy at fullback.

In front of them Kerry Phillips and Laura Campbell worked well either side of Tara Markey and got in some great blocks over the hour.

At midfield there were some powerful running and link play by Ciara Walker who had her best game of the year & Aoibh O’Neill ran herself to a standstill constantly providing an option by moving quick ball into the forward line.

Our forward play was exceptional at times and the inside movement was a joy to watch with clever passing and some really incisive link play.

Scorers on a great evening of football were Alanah O’Neill 1:8:
Rose Boden 3:4
Rea winters 2:0;
Nicola Campbell 1:2;
Sarah Graham 1:0
Aoibh O’Neill 0:2.

The team are playing well but know that they can always improve as there will be stiffer challenges ahead.

Attention focuses now on Mullaghbawn next Monday and it will take another performance like tonight to ensure victory and a championship final awaits .
