Our U13's travelled to Ballymacnab on Sunday evening to take on Cullyhanna in the Division 1A League Final.

Going on previous league results Dromintee would be considered to have the edge going into game. However the evenings game of football would have the Dromintee men dig deep for what was a high intensity game.

Dromintee started the game with fast moving football and registered the first score of the game from the left boot of Ronan Martin. The Dromintee lads quickly settled into their rhythm with team leading at the 1st water break by 2-03 to 0-01 with 2-01 scored by Gavin O’Rourke.

Shortly after the restart of the 2nd period Kyle Mc Mahon received a blow that resulted in a broken collar bone (and we wish him well).

With substitute made, the two teams got back to business with Cullyhanna applying much more pressure right across the park which Dromintee dually responded to. During this period Dromintee conceded 1-03 to the 0-05 scored with Ollie Rice and Tomas Fox registering their own scores.

The play of the first half was an exceptional point blank save made by Patrick Rice who dived full stretch to his left to push the ball around the post. On the stroke of half time Dromintee led by 2-08 to 1-04.

With a few positional changes made at half time to nullify the Cullyhanna counter attack both teams exchanged scores in the 3rd period to leave the sides 2-11 to 2-06 at the 2nd Water Break.

At the start of the 4th quarter and with Cullyhanna pilling on the pressure a Dromintee defensive error allowed the ball into the back of the Dromintee net just leaving 2 points between the sides. This was to be the last and only score for Cullyhanna in this period.

With Dromintee changing tatics on their kick outs it caught Cullyhanna by surprise and fast moving ball into the Dromintee full forward line in this period caught Cullyhanna on the back foot and resulted in Cullyhanna conceding frees which were converted by Ronan Martin and Oisin Byrne to push the game out of reach.

In the dying minutes a well worked goal was disallowed for what the referee had deemed as a illegal hand pass but by now Dromintee had their name on the Silverware.

Dromintee would like to thank Cullyhanna for what was a great contest and to Ballymacnab for hosting the Final.

The U13 Management team would like to thank players for their commitment in 2021, to parents and sponsors for their support and to the large crowd that came to Ballymacnab to cheer the team along Sunday evening.
