The Under 12.5 girls campaign ended with a degree of disappointment mixed with pride yesterday in Mullabrack.

It was the 12th game of their season having won the previous 11 and they faced Clann Eireann in the championship final who were chasing their third consecutive title at this age group.

The girls started well and dominated possession leading two points to one at the first water break. The achilles heel was an inability to convert scoring chances which would cost the girls dearly and allow Clann Eireann lead 4-3 at the half time break.

The Lurgan side pushed on in the second half and began to dominate the exchanges due largely to their physicality and athletic development which was noticeably further advanced than the young Dromintee side.

Chasing the game in the fourth quarter Dromintee couldn’t create or execute the necessary goal chances required and ultimately lost out to a better Clann Eireann side on the day.

At the final whistle the Lurgan girls took the cup honours with Dromintee taking home the league title .

Combined with winning the Dromintee blitz this year the league win is evidence of significant progress for the girls on their development path.

Sixteen of the 21 girls on the squad are eligible for the same age grade next season so the hope and expectation will be that the girls continue their progression in 2022.

While left to reflect on the small areas that require improvement the girls can confidently face the winter break knowing that they gave their all and took key steps on the pathway to future success.
