The club were fortunate to host the first competitive Ulster game for the Armagh Under 16’s this afternoon as the girls stuttered to a five point win over a very committed Derry side.

Dromintee have three girls on the panel. Both Alanna O’Neill and Lily McBennett started for the Orchard with Alanna registering the first score of the game from centre half forward before moving to midfield.

Armagh were in general slow to start, never truly hit their gears and were 4-2 down after 13 mins before they hit a purple patch with goals from Caoimhe Gollogy Derrynoose and the Clann Eireann duo of Anna Lavery & Cassie Henderson while Eilidh Meabh Duffy weighed in with two points.

Further scores from the full forward line in the form of Cassie Henderson and Caoimhe Gollogly saw Armagh go into the break nine ahead on a score line of 4:06 to 1:06.

The slow start of the first half replicated itself after the break as Derry hit 1:02 before Cassie netted her second goal of the game.

A goal from Jessica McCreesh and another white flag for Duffy appeared to leave Armagh comfortable on a score line of 6:07 to 2:08 but Derry refused to lie down and some very strong running notably from their midfield sector saw them hit 2:01 without reply to leave Armagh with a nervous finish.

From having led by nine at half time and stretched the lead to eleven midway through the second half the lead was down to just four with minutes remaining but a Caoimhe Gollogy free calmed nerves to give Armagh a five point win and a positive start to their campaign.

The club pitches were in great order to host the games and we are very grateful for the voluntary effort that saw the club again able to host another county game for Armagh LGFA .
