DROMINTEE senior manager John Kennedy has said that “relief and delight” are his two main emotions as the new football season approaches.

The coronavirus has led to a big delay with club championship due to begin at the end of July. At present, the senior team is still unable to train together but Kennedy said even having a target date has been a great help.

“It has been a strange period,” he said. “We’ve had to get used to having no football and sport in our lives.

“Players throughout the club didn’t know what way going on, there was a real uncertainty there. Now we have some certainty and there is the relief and delight that goes along with that.”

The senior team will once again be aiming to be the first to lift the Gerry Fagan Cup, and there is a hope that they can turn their touted potential into even more.

With the bulk of the team now in their mid-20s, it seems a good time for the side to push onto bigger and better things.

Kennedy said that he has been pleased with the commitment in what is now his second season in charge.

“There is so much talent there and we want to turn that into results.

“The lads have really worked hard, they’re a great group and they have been doing what they can to help Dromintee. You’ll see them pushing it even harder now as the season approaches.”

One thing that remains up in the air is whether or not spectators will be allowed to watch the side as the GAA will be following medical advice.

Kennedy said that it is important that whenever fans are allowed back, that they come out in numbers to support all teams in the club.

“There is nothing better than going to an away match and seeing a big Dromintee crowd there.

“At home too it can make a big difference. There was a huge crowd at the Madden championship game last year and the players fed off that.

“When the action does get back and you’re allowed out, go see the boys and girls and the senior teams in action. There is so much talent in the club, they’re worth watching.”
