Dromintee 2:8 v St. Patrick’s Cullyhanna 0:6

In the first of three matches involving the home Dromintee club today Dromintee U15’s reached the Shield final when they defeated St. Patrick’s Cullyhanna by eight points. The Dromintee lads have struck form in dramatic fashion & over these last two weeks have played their best football. Both games had seen them not concede any goals and defensively they looked sound while up front they created lots of chances & managed to score two goals of their own. For quite a few of these lads this will be their third final in three years and they have certainly shown that they can raise their game at the right time of year.

Dromintee took a while to get started & had taken them a while to cancel out the early Cullyhanna pressure. Michael McCoy who ran hI’m self to a standstill got Dromintee’s first goal when he clinically finished a fast moving attack to the Cullyhanna net. Up by five points at half time the visitors get plugging away and wore the home side down. Cullyhanna fought tigerishly but could not breech the tight marking defence and when tempers flared in the last ten minutes it was the introduction of second half substitutes who powered Dromintee across the line. Cillian Mc Crink a second half substitute was upended for a penalty that was coolly dispatched by Diarmaid O’Rourke who finished the game as Dromintee’s top score with 1:5. There were excellent performances by all seven defenders and midfield more than held their own providing good support to a hard working forward line.

Next up is the shield final when they take on the winners of Tir Na Og & St. Paul’s/ Wolfe Tones amalgamation which is still to be played next week. Well done lads - great to be in another final.
