Drumahill senior ladies commenced their division 2 league campaign with a convincing 18 point victory over Mullabrack played at the Dromintee venue.
Ahead 1:5 to 0.2 at half time after having played into the clubhouse end the Dromintee/ Forkhill amalgamation put the game to bed early in the second half when early goals by Sarah King & a Holly Morgan penalty ensured that there was no coming back for Mullabrack.
In the second half, the home side played with a sense of freedom and exuberance strangely missing from their first half display. Playing an energetic passing game the home side weaved at will through the Mullabrack rearguard opening up their defence with some fine combination play.
Passing movements almost the full length of the pitch saw eight different scorers on the mark and the home side were able to run the bench midway through the second half as the home side had built up a sizeable lead.
Best for Drumahill were Captain of the team Nicole Mc Kenna in goals who kicked out solidly and was commanding in her own square. Ellen Kissward, Collette Mc Crink & Sarah Conlon in defence all had good moments in the game while the midfield quartet of Aislinn Hughes, Lauren Sheridan, Holly Morgan and Meegan Sheridan mastered their opponents for hunger and commitment and eventually wore the opposition down with their link passing and moved the ball intelligently.
Scorers on the evening were Holly Morgan 2:2; Erin Douglas 1:2; Sarah King 1:0; Aoibh O’Neill 0:3; Aislinn Hughes 0:2 & Collette Mc Crink & Sarah Graham had one point each.
There was much to enjoy from the performance but the girls will know themselves that hesitant and wayward shooting in the first half will not be good enough against better quality opposition later in the season.
There is plenty to work upon at training but this was a promising start to their season and the girls can look forward with confidence to the season ahead.
