Dromahill 5:10 Silverbridge 3:09
Dromahill senior ladies captured the Senior Division 1B league title on Saturday night when they overcame the challenge of Silverbridge in very wet conditions played at the Bridge.
First half goals by Lauren Sheridan & Aoibh O’Neill ensured that the visitors were still in the contest at half time and while both struggled to retain possession in the difficult playing conditions Dromahill were quite potent in attack.
Aoife McCoy’s runs from deep and the Sheridan’s sisters strong midfield partnership ensured Dromahill maintained a foothold in the game. Dromahill were behind by one point defending the clubroom goals at half time but Silverbridge were full value for their one point lead given the amount of possession they enjoyed in the first period.
The second half introduction of Shauna Grey gave the Dromahill girls a renewed attacking threat and a much needed impetus. A converted penalty by Megan Sheridan in the first quarter put the girls 4 points in front and this was a lead that they built upon and added a further 2:4 before a brief flourish by the home side in the final 5 minutes that made the score-line more respectable.
The Dromahill girls are to be commended on adding the Division 1 B title in only their first year having returned to the senior first division. Their attention now turns to the Senior Championship where they will take on Ballyhegan in the preliminary round later on in August. The team returned back to the Dromintee club to begin their league celebrations where food was arranged. The Dromintee and Forkhill clubs would like to congratulate the management team on bringing back silverware in their first year back at senior level and wish the team well for the remainder of season.
